All too often, live music is overlooked in the planning of special events. Fine music complements many occasions, including weddings, anniversaries, corporate receptions and other social gatherings. Our duo has performing elegant music for flute and violin at weddings, receptions and other special occasions for nearly 15 years. We have an extensive repertoire of classical music by the great composers such as Mozart, Bach and Vivaldi. We can also include ethnic music such as folk music of Europe, British Isles, and the earlier music of the Renaissance. The combination of flute and violin provides a light, festive ambiance which carries well without being obtrusive to conversation, even to those nearby. We do not usually require amplification, though we have the equipment if it is needed. As a duo we need very little space, slightly more than what a table for two would occupy. Outdoor weddings are a specialty for the Arcadian Duo, as we do not require amplification in these situations, and can change locations quickly and easily. We can expand our duo to a trio or quartet; however, each additional musician increases your cost. Deborah also plays the viola, which provides a deeper tone, similar to the cello. Fred also plays all sizes of recorders, which enable us to play Renaissance and Baroque music with a more authentic sound. Our package includes 20 to 30 minutes of pre-ceremony music, then processional, registry signing, and recessional music. We will play for an additional time (30 to 45 min) following the ceremony, up to 1.5 hours total. Our fee for this service is $250. Mileage allowance of $0.50 per km is added for locations outside a 20 km radius of Cobourg. We charge an additional fee for arrangements of special requests which fall outside our repertoire. This fee is negotiable as the time required depends on the song.
